If you read my blog regularly you probably noticed, that I have not published a lot of articles concerning my running efforts in the past couple of months. With this article I would like to explain why this is the case:
What happend since last year
When I started working out for the Dresden marathon in the last year I was desperately looking forward to taking part in the grand competition in my home town. I actually signed up and already payed the starting fee but was disappointed by our local politicians who cancelled the event because of the Covid-19 pandemic. After hearing the news I was less motivated to continue my practice and after all sport activities in associations was forbidden by our government due to the new lock down I reduced my practice hours significantly.
Throughout the winter I had to train alone and was occasionally running with friends but did not commit to any longer distances. I wanted to run my first marathon on a real race day. I wanted to stay in a crowd of runners and I wanted to get cheered on by spectators. To make it short: I wanted to have a great experience when running my first every marathon and thus decided to postpone my goal to the next year, hoping that the global health situation would improve.
My new challenge
As the temperatures are rising, more and more people are getting vaccinated and fewer people are infecting with the virus every day I now allow myself to hope for a regular running event during this summer. Therefore I started to practice again on a regular basis. I already got in two half marathon runs looking to up my max distance. My goal for this year is to participate in the SachsenTrail competition, a trail running competition that offers courses that are up to 70km long. For the beginning I would like to run half the distance in order to get my original goal, the marathon, one step closer.
In order to keep myself accountable and to share my successes and failures with you guys I will share the workouts of the next months with you on this blog as I used to do last year. I am already looking forward to this new challenge 😀
Did you struggle with your training schedule as well during the pandemic? Are you missing your workout partners? Let me know in the comments, together we’ll get through this!
